No puedo escribir mucho acerca del “7o Festival Internacional de Investigación Artística de Valencia”, puesto que es la primer vez que iba y me fui sintiendo que había visto (y escuchado) muy poco de lo que se exhibía. Me parece que es un evento enfocado al arte auditivo y visual conteporáneo, y para algo así, no creo que haya mejor recinto que el Museo de las Ciencias de Valencia.

Además de lo expuesto en el museo, hay una serie de conciertos diurnos (entre 7pm y medianoche) y otros nocturnos (entre 1 y 5 am). Yo sólo vi algunos de los diurnos: Sir Alice (más performance que concierto), Manta Ray, CocoRosie, un poco de Najwa (muy comercial para el evento, a mi gusto, pero sin duda el más abarrotado), Spektrum y Zuco 103.

Dentro del museo había algunas exhibiciones interesantes, como la habitación oscura en la que podías escuchar “Cuentos de hadas para niñas psíquicas”, y otras no tanto, como el video de hora y media en la que una mujer desnuda se rayaba todo el cuerpo con una Bic hasta agotar la tinta. La impresión que me llevé, sin embargo, es que las mejores exhibiciones eran las que no eran permanentes, sino programadas... de las cuales no asistí a ninguna. El próximo año será.

I can’t write a lot about the “7th International Festival of Artistic Investigation of Valencia”, because it was the first time I went and I left feeling I’d seen (and heard) just a little of what was being exhibited. It seems like its an event focused on contemporary audio and visual art, and for something like that, I don’t think there’s a better location than Valencia’s Science Museum.

In addition to the museum exhibit, there’s a series of daily (7pm to midnight) and nightly (2am to 5am) concerts. I only caught a few of the daily ones: Sir Alice (more performance than concert), Manta Ray. CocoRosie, a bit of Najwa (too commercial for this festival, if you ask me, but she certainly drew the biggest crowd), Spektrum and Zuco 103.

In the museum there were several interesting exhibits, like the darkroom where you could listen to “Fairy tales for psychic girls”, and some other tht weren’t so interesting, like the 90-minute video of a woman drawing lines all over her naked body until the pen’s ink ran out. The impression I left with, though, was that the better exhibitions were not the permanent ones, but rather the scheduled ones--of which I attended none. Next year, I guess.
