We don't have a lot of time to write today, but we don't want to abandon the blog for too long, either, so all I'll do is post a picture and talk a bit about an urban trend. The photo was taken a few yards away from the "Mannequin Pis" in Brussels in early June, and I thought it was interesting because, although I don't know when that image was placed there or when its satellite comments were added, it seems only socialist Spaniards do any travelling abroad. The image is an example of "stencil graffiti", a social/artistic manifestation that's been incubating for a decade or two now but I've only started noticing recently and I thought was a mainly European phenomenom, but searching for examples on-line I was surprised to find that the best samples I found--the most politically charged--were in South America. Here are a couple of links to the blog of an American expat in Buenos Aires who's compiled pictures of stencil graffiti in different cities of the world, but pay special attention to the Argentinian ones: Robert Wright's "Sign O' the Times, parts 24-26" and "Sign O' the Times, parts 27-30".
