New releases: week of August 20, 2007
Luego de un breve receso, el diluvio de discos nuevos vuelve a agarrar fuerza... Dos discos muy anticipados (al menos por mí) salen esta semana en el Reino Unido: Strangefolk de Kula Shaker y Lady's Bridge de Richard Hawley. Han pasado 8240 días desde que Kula Shaker sacó un disco (propiamente dicho), así que me fui directo a comprar Strangefolk digitalmente en una de las tiendas a las que enlazaban desde su página de MySpace, sólo para encontrar que una de ellas sólo vendía discos físicos y la otra sólo vendía... ¡¡archivos WMA!! ¿¡¿Archivos WMA?!? ¿Qué p*do con eso? ¿Kula Shaker alineados con el arquetípico monstruo corporativo? Peor aún, la sección de ayuda de la tienda es muy inconsistente; en unas partes dice que los usuarios de Mac no pueden escuchar los archivos, en otra dice que pueden ser "convertidos para poder ser subidos a tu iPod"; en una parte dice que los archivos WMA tienen "protección estándar DRM", pero en otra dice que "reproducen en cualquier PC y Windows Media Player". Y sí afirman que los usuarios de Mac no pueden quemar las canciones en un CD. ¡Y luego se preguntan porqué el iTunes ha sido tan exitoso! Así que supongo que tendré que esperar hasta encontrar el CD en una tienda. O quizás, sólo quizás, podría re-instalar el LimeWire y bajarme MP3s ilegales (que sólo serían ilegales hasta el momento en que me compre el CD.) Respecto a Richard Hawley, su disco anterior, Cole's Corner, fue uno de los que más escuché a finales del año pasado (aunque salió en el 2005). Pretendía agregar algunas pistas suyas al jukebox y subir una reseña, pero nunca me puse a ello. Quizás haga una reseña doble cuando me haga de Lady's Bridge. Mientras tanto, puedes escuchar un par de canciones de cada disco en su página de MySpace. | After a brief recess, the deluge of new records picks up strength again... Two highly anticipated albums (well, by me, at least) are out this week in th UK: Kula Shaker's Strangefolk and Richard Hawley's Lady's Bridge. It's been 8240 days since Kula Shaker released a proper album, so I went in to buy Strangefolk digitally from the stores the band linked to from their MySpace page only to find that one of them only sold physical discs and the other only sold... WMA files!! WMA files?!? What is up with that? Kula Shaker lined up with the quintessential corporate monster? Even worse, the help section of the store they're sold on is very inconsistent; somewhere it says that Mac users can't play the files, somewhere else it says "they can be converted to be uploaded to your iPod"; in one place it says the WMA files have "standard DRM protection", but another place says they "play across any PC and Windows Media Player". And it does state that Mac users can't burn the tracks to CD. And then they wonder why iTunes has been so successful! So I guess I'll have to wait until I find the CD in a store. Or maybe, just maybe, I could re-install LimeWire and get illegal MP3s (which would be only illegal up until the moment I purcahse the CD.) Regarding Richard Hawley, his previous record, Cole's Corner, was one of the records I listened to the most during the last months of last year (although it was realeased in 2005). I meant to add a few tracks of his to the jukebox and upload a review, but never got around to it. Maybe I'll just post a double review when I get my hands on Lady's Bridge. In the meantime, listen to a couple of songs from each album on his MySpace page. |
