New music this week

La gran noticia de esta semana es, claro, el lanzamiento del disco nuevo de Coldplay, torpemente entitulado Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. A pesar de haber sido producido por Brian Eno, no estoy muy emocionado con este disco. Encima del título inconsistente y la extraña portada, las dos canciones que he escuchado hasta ahora me parecieron algo aburridas. La otra gran noticia de esta semana es que sale el disco nuevo de My Morning Jacket, Evil Urges. (Ver mi comentario publicado el mes pasado). Pero hay al menos otros dos lanzamientos esta semana que valen la pena mencionar: uno es que ya está disponible en CD el nuevo disco de Eef Barzelay, Lose Big, el segundo disco de este año que se ha ganado ya un lugar en mi lista de discos favoritos de todos los tiempos (el primero fue de Merz, Moi et mon camion), y el otro es el re-lanzmaiento de Fresh Wine for the Horses de Rob Dickinson. No sé cómo me siento respecto a este re-lanzamiento; fue uno de mis discos favoritos de 2005, así que cualquier promoción adicional es buena, pero por otro lado, me siento algo decepcionado porque en tres años pareciera que lo único que ha podido hacer Rob es volver a sacar este disco con un bonus CD con versiones acúsitcas de canciones que grabó antes con Catherine Wheel. Trataré de escribir un poco más de ambos en los próximos días.		The big news this week, of course, is the release of Coldplay's awkwardly titled Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Despite being produced by Brian Eno, I'm not too thrilled by this release. In addition to the inconsistent title and unfitting cover, the two pre-releases singles I heard seemed rather boring. The other big news this week is the release of My Morning Jacket's Evil Urges. (See my Album Commentary published last month). But there are at least two other releases this week worth mentioning: one is the physical CD release of Eef Barzelay's Lose Big, the second album released this year that has already become a part of my all-time favorite albums list (the first being Merz's Moi et mon camion), and the other is the re-release of Rob Dickinson's Fresh Wine for the Horses. I don't know how I feel about this re-release; it was one of my favorite albums of 2005, so any additional exposure is good, but on the other hand, I feel kind of disappointed that in almost three years the only thing Rob could come up with is re-releasing this record with a bonus disc of acoustic versions of songs he recorded even earlier with Catherine Wheel. I'll try to write more about these two records in the next few days.
